Wheel of the Year
This year-long program is an invitation to observe and celebrate the solar cycle. As humans, we are extensions of Gaia: our bodies are formed of the Earth and sunlight, starlight. Celebrating the solar cycle brings us closer to patterns of nature that influence our experience of embodiment.

The solar cycle is marked by eight alignments referred to as the wheel of the year: solstices, equinoxes and the four “cross-quarter” ceremonies that are between the solstices and equinoxes.
Each of the eight wheel of the year ceremonies will supporting us through the eight transition times, metaphors for our personal journey. We will look at cultural celebrations and temple complexes worldwide, with a slight emphasis on the Celtic calendar.
Each participant will also be asked to consciously relate to one plant of their choice through the year, observing its changes through the seasons. This will help to ground the experience of embodied nature through the year.

Celebrating the Wheel of the Year honors the solar cycle and also acts as something of a realignment. The Gregorian calendar which most of the world is now synched to (though many other calendars exist and are adhered to, simultaneously: the Jewish calendar, Islamic, Chinese, Buddhist, Navajo, Hawai’ian, Mayan, etc…) is a variation of the Roman calendar, which was placed out of synch with the natural world, partially for reasons of taxation, and partially for political and religious reasons. This “overlay” of the Roman Empire’s perspective of time has perpetuated a disconnection from the wisdom of the natural world, and from ourselves as nature-al beings.
